Professional Diploma Programme in Genetic Counselling

The next intake of the Professional Diploma Programme in Genetic Counselling (2026/28) is scheduled to open for applications in September 2026. Further details regarding admission requirements and application procedures will be announced in due course.

The Diploma is a 18-month part-time programme. It covers the topics of Clinical Biochemical Genetics, Clinical Genetics, Population Genetics, Genetic Counselling, Prenatal and Paediatrics Genetics, Adult and Cancer Genetics, and Ethics and Law. Clinical attachment will also be one of the primary teaching components of the programme.

Objectives

  1. To provide participants with the principles and current practices of Genetic Counselling.
  2. To equip students with practical knowledge in providing care for obstetric, paediatric and adult patients with genomic, biochemical and developmental diseases and up-to-date laboratory screening methods.
  3. To serve as a preparatory course for further postgraduate studies in Medical Genetics.
