(1) Visa-Free Policy
Holders of ordinary passports from the following 38 countries and territories will be able to enjoy a 30-day Visa-Free stay in China till December 31, 2025: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands.
News update: From June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, citizens of the following countries can now enjoy visa-free entry into Mainland China for up to 30 days: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay
(2) 240-Hour Visa-free Transit Policy
This policy applies to nationals from below 54 countries:
Europe: Austria, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland; Russia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Monaco and Belarus

The 6th BCM-CUHK-ZJU Joint Symposium in Clinical Genetics 2025 will be held in Hangzhou, China. International participants are advised to pay special attention to visa requirements. Please plan your travel in advance and allow sufficient time for the visa application process.

1. The Conference Organizing Committee cannot issue visas to attend the conference but can issue an Invitation letter to assist with your visa application. If you need the Invitation letter from the conference, please send the following information to cuogevents@cuhk.edu.hk:

2. Please note that an invitation letter will only be issued upon confirmation of registration and after full payment for registration fees has been received. Invitation letters are only issued via email in PDF format and will be sent within approximately one week after your information is received by the Organizing Committee.
3. Participants are highly recommended to apply for a Tourist Visa. The Organizing Committees can not issue any official letters of invitation for your visa application due to Chinese regulations.

Do I need a Chinese visa?
Usually most foreigners traveling to mainland China, whether for business or pleasure, require a visa. It’s very difficult to obtain a Chinese port visa at the Chinese border entry points. However, some cities and regions of China are visa free in certain circumstances.
Who Can Enjoy Visa Exemption?
(1) Mutual Visa Exemption Between the People’s Republic of China and Foreign Countries
Ordinary Passport Holders from below countries can travel to China without a visa, staying for less than 30 days under the Mutual Visa Exemption Policy.
Countries: Albania, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dominica, Ecuador, Fiji, Georgia, Grenada, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Mauritius, Qatar, San Marino, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Tonga, United Arab Emirates.
(2) 240-Hour Transit Visa Exemption Policy:
On December 17, 2024, the National Immigration Administration of China announced an extension of the transit visa exemption stay for foreign nationals. The stay period has been extended from the original 72 or 144 hours to 240 hours (10 days). The policy also expands the number of eligible ports of entry, increasing from 39 to 60, and broadens the regions where travellers can stay, from 19 provinces to 24.
The 240-hour visa-free stay applies to nationals from below 54 countries:
Europe: Austria, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland; Russia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Monaco and Belarus

(3) 30 Days Visa Free Policy (38 countries)
China’s 30 Days Visa Free Policy allows visitors from 38 countries to stay in China for up to 30 days without a visa.
Eligible Countries: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands.
The policy is valid till December 31, 2025.
