Our MSc in Maternal Fetal Medicine is a unique programme in Hong Kong that offers a comprehensive curriculum to help physicians, nurses, midwives, and laboratory technicians enhance their professional knowledge in the field of maternal and fetal medicine. This 24-month part-time programme focuses on both theoretical and practical skills and is designed to equip students with the knowledge and expertise required for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of high-risk pregnancies. For maternal medicine, the programme covers topics related to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of pregnant women with medical conditions / obstetric complications, including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, cardiac disease, haematological disease. For fetal medicine, it covers the diagnosis and management of a wide range of fetal anomalies, as well as practical skills in ultrasound and fetoscopy and technological advances in fetal intervention.

Prospective Students

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should have medical or nursing related Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university.

Program Structure

Students must complete 27 units with 9 required courses and 1 elective course within the two-year normative period of study:

  • Maternal Medicine
  • Perinatal Medicine
  • Clinical Genetics
  • Clinical Cytogenetics
  • Advanced Clinical Genetics

Elective Courses (Choose either one)

  • Literature Review
  • Research Project

Mode of Teaching

English is the medium of instruction. Lectures, clinical and laboratory attachment, group discussions, case studies, tutorials and conferences will be arranged to enhance students’ understanding and performance. Both face-to-face and online teaching will be adopted.

Class Schedule

On-campus: 4 times/year (3-4 consecutive days at weekend)

Online: usually at weekends

Assessment

Performance will be assessed through written essays, assignments, examinations, presentations, clinical attachment, research projects and attendance.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should have medical or nursing related Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. Past academic records, working experiences and reference letters will be considered in the admission decision. We may conduct interview(s) for shortlisted candidates.
